This Memorial Day weekend, I’m remembering everyone who has given their lives to make our way of life possible.
I am remembering soldiers, both American and our allies, who have lost their lives in battle.
I am remembering members of the foreign service who have lost their lives working for diplomacy and peace.
I am remembering journalists around the world who have lost their lives in pursuit of the truth.
I am remembering workers around the world who have lost their lives in unsafe working conditions.
I am remembering the victims of natural disasters who have lost their lives to climate change.
I am remembering the indigenous people who lost their lives in the invasion and genocide that created our country.
We ask an enormous sacrifice from members of the military and their families, and they absolutely deserve recognition for their willingness to make that sacrifice. So many others have been sacrificed by the choices that we have made without ever being given the dignity of choosing for themselves. Let’s remember them too.
